What Is The Theory Behind Holistic Medicine?

It is believed in holistic medicine philosophy that the optimal health of a person can be achieved by gaining a proper balance of life. That is to say – body, mind, spirit, and emotions must all be balanced to be healthy.

A holistic practitioner's goal is therefore aimed at treating the person as a whole, rather than just the illness. You can pop here to get more information regarding holistic medicine.

It is also believed that a person is made up of independent parts which affect one another when they are not working properly. When one part of the body is either underproductive or has completely broken down, it will affect other productive parts causing ill-health. Therefore, a re-balancing of the body must take place.

A further holistic medicine philosophy is that unconditional love and support is a powerful healer and that an individual is ultimately responsible for his or her own health and well-being.

Other beliefs include: an individual has innate healing powers, is a person rather than a disease, all aspects of an individual's life must be addressed, and the root cause must be fixed (not just the symptoms).

However, like many alternative medicines, there is no actual scientific evidence that holistic principles work, other than the many individuals that have been cured by it. Holistic medicine's ideas have been around for a long time (4th century b.c.) when the Greek philosopher Socrates spoke of treating only one part of the body as being "not good."
